The G7 Summit vs China

THE G7 SUMMIT vs CHINA

The G7 is the group of developed capitalist countries that lead the world’s Western bloc: US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada. The US is the leader. The US sees China as its major adversary in the world today and wants to make sure the other members of the G7 are on board, even though all of them have a huge amount of trade with China. The US has used China’s support for Russia in the Ukraine war to move the rest of the G7 to oppose China.

China is accused of supporting Russia’s arms industry, trying to dominate the South China Sea, dumping electric cars in Western markets, threatening to withhold critical minerals needed by high-tech industries, acting irresponsibly in cyberspace (for example, producing malware to cause malfunctions in Western infrastructure), discouraging attendance at a peace conference organized by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, and on and on.

A joint communique issued by the G7 is more hostile to China than similar ones issued in the past. The US, and now the rest of the G7, are spooked by China’s rise and are determined to undermine it.
