High Tech and Deportation
HIGH TECH and DEPORTATION
One wonders just how the US will accomplish the president’s goal of deporting millions of migrants. One way is high tech. Ankle monitors to track location, databases with fingerprints and faces, tools that can break into locked phones, DNA tests, license plate readers, GPS trackers, and computer power that connects all the data—these are just some of the tools the US government can use to find people to deport. Contracts have already been signed with companies that produce the intrusive devices: Palantir, Thomson Reuters, Lexis Nexis, Clearview AI, Cellebrite, Geo Group, Babel Street. Most of these contracts were signed under the Biden administration by two agencies, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Citizen and Immigration Services.
The conclusion is that if the government wants to deport, it has the tools.
