Vaccinations: Polio

VACCINATIONS: POLIO

Some of us are old enough to remember the polio epidemic of the 1950s. We saw friends and acquaintances crippled for life. In 1952 alone 60,000 Americans were stricken with polio, leaving 21,000 paralyzed and killing 3,000. We remember iron lungs. And we are seeing people come down with “post-polio” syndrome, with various serious symptoms.

We now have the prospect of a Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is a polio vaccine skeptic. He has even said the decline in polio cases due to the vaccine is” a mythology”. We haven’t space to deal with other daft ideas of Mr. Kennedy, such as that the Covid-19 vaccines which saved the lives of millions are “the deadliest vaccine ever made.”

Kennedy’s nomination should not be confirmed. Contact your senator.
